Work Begins on Horley Town Centre Transport Improvements
Work has now officially started on the long-planned transport improvement scheme in Horley town centre, led by Surrey County Council.
The project aims to make the town centre safer, easier to navigate and better connected for pedestrians, cyclists, bus users and drivers. Residents may now begin to see construction activity, temporary traffic management and phased changes in key areas.
What Is Happening?
The scheme includes a range of upgrades designed to modernise and improve movement through the town centre. These include:
- Improved pedestrian crossings
- Enhanced cycling facilities
- Adjustments to road layouts to improve traffic flow
- Bus stop upgrades
- Public realm improvements to make the centre more welcoming
Works are expected to take place in stages to reduce disruption where possible, although some temporary delays and diversions may occur during construction.
Why Now?
Horley has experienced significant housing growth in recent years, increasing pressure on local roads and town centre routes. The improvements are intended to support this growth while encouraging safer and more sustainable travel.
The project forms part of wider transport and infrastructure investment across the county.
What Residents Should Expect
During construction, residents and businesses may notice:
- Temporary traffic lights or lane closures
- Changes to pedestrian routes
- Construction vehicles and equipment in the area
- Updated signage as phases are completed
Surrey County Council has previously consulted on aspects of the scheme, and the works now underway reflect the approved plans.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about timings and traffic arrangements as the project progresses.
