Council Tax Frozen as Borough Sets Balanced Budget for 2026/27

Reigate and Banstead Borough Council has agreed to freeze its share of Council Tax for the 2026/27 financial year while approving a balanced budget.

The decision means there will be no increase in the Borough Council’s portion of Council Tax for residents across Reigate and Banstead. The council says it has achieved this despite ongoing financial pressures affecting local authorities nationwide.

Councillors approved the budget at a recent full council meeting. The plan sets out how services will be funded over the coming year while ensuring spending remains in line with available income.

What this means for residents

  • The Borough Council’s share of Council Tax will not rise in 2026/27.
  • Core local services will continue to be delivered.
  • The council will continue efforts to manage costs and improve efficiency.

It’s worth noting that a Council Tax bill is made up of several elements, including Surrey County Council, Surrey Police, and other local precepts. This freeze applies only to the Borough Council’s portion.

Financial challenges remain

Like many councils, Reigate and Banstead continues to face rising costs and wider uncertainty in local government funding. The approved budget outlines savings and income measures designed to maintain financial stability while protecting frontline services where possible.

Council leaders say they will continue reviewing spending and identifying efficiencies to ensure long-term sustainability.
