£3.9 Million Investment to Create a New Town Park at Tanyard Meadows, Horley
Reigate & Banstead Borough Council has announced a significant £3.9 million investment to create a brand new Town Park at Tanyard Meadows, located in north-east Horley. This major project is part of a long-term vision to enhance leisure, sports, and play provision for the local community — especially in light of Horley’s growing population.
100% Funded by Developer Contributions
Importantly, this development is being fully funded through contributions from housing developers as part of their planning obligations. No council tax funding will be used, meaning the project delivers direct benefits to the community from local growth and development.
A Multi-Use Space for All Ages
The new Town Park aims to provide a wide range of inclusive facilities that promote health, well-being, and outdoor activity. While final designs are still in progress, the features under consideration include:
A new sports pavilion with accessible toilets and changing rooms
Play areas designed for children of different ages and abilities
Grass or artificial sports pitches for football or other team sports
An outdoor gym or trim trail for fitness enthusiasts
A multi-use games area (MUGA) and ball court for youth recreation
Dedicated youth facilities such as hangout spaces or skate elements
Walking and cycling routes to connect the park to surrounding areas
Enhancing Nature and Tranquility
As well as providing active recreation, the park will be thoughtfully designed to respect and enhance the surrounding natural environment, including the Burstow Stream that runs through the site. Plans include landscaping that supports biodiversity, nature conservation, and peaceful green spaces for relaxation.
Shaped by the Community
Community engagement will be central to the development process. Reigate & Banstead Borough Council has confirmed that residents, local groups, and organisations will be consulted to ensure the final design reflects the needs and aspirations of the people of Horley.
